A commander in Iran's Revolutionary Guard warned that Iran will target U.S. bases in the area if the country goes ahead in a war with Israel, according to the New York Post.

Iranian state television reported the news on Sunday, Sept. 23, and added that the threat raises a larger conflict that might force other countries to get involved as well.

The Iranian commander that made the statement was Gen. Amir Ali Hajizadeh, who also mentioned that an attack on Israel cannot happen without the support of their allied country the United States, making all U.S. military bases a target for attack.

"For this reason, we will enter a confrontation with both parties and will definitely be at war with American bases should a war break out," Hajizadeh said in remarks taken via Iran's state Al-Alam TV. "There will be no neutral country in the region. To us, these bases are equal to U.S. soil."

U.S. facilities in Bahrain, Qatar and Afghanistan would be targeted as well, he said.

This recent turn in events follows Israel's concerns over Iran's nuclear program and them stating that they will potentially strike Iran's nuclear plants to bury reports that Iran is building a bomb.

On Sept. 11, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the U.S. had no "moral right" to stop Israel in their endeavors to take action against Iran's nuclear facilities because the country has "refused to be firm with Tehran," according to The Times of India.

"The world tells Israel 'wait, there's still time'. And I say, 'Wait for what? Wait until when?' " said Netanyahu at a press conference. "Those in the international community who refuse to put red lines before Iran don't have a moral right to place a red light before Israel."

In addition, the publication reported that only a day earlier did U.S. Secretary of State Hilary Clinton say that the U.S. would not set a deadline for further talks with Iran about their nuclear program because "there was still time for diplomacy to work."
