Longmire returned to Santa Fe for production on Monday and the locals seem just as thrilled about it as the cast and crew.

'Longmire' Star Says New Episodes On Netflix Will Explore 'Humanity'

"Not only is Longmire a great show that features all the incredible natural beauty of northern New Mexico, it has been critical to helping us build Santa Fe's reputation as the best place to film in the country," Mayor Javier M. Gonzales explained to the Albuquerque Journal on Monday. "We know how much this benefits our local economy and culture, and we're excited they're back."

The series will film in the area from March through the end of June, employing over 100 New Mexico residents for the crew, plus 40 actors and around 1,000 extras. The show provides a similar service in Las Vegas as well, where production will continue later this summer.

While Longmire might be returning to familiar territory for production, it will be debuting on a new network this year. Following A&E's cancellation of the program, the popular crime drama was picked up by Netflix back in November.

"We love our new home on Netflix," declared executive producer Greer Shephard. "But we're even more excited to be back working in our beloved home of New Mexico where we are treated so well."

Most of the show's cast arrived in Santa Fe on March 20 in order to settle in and prepare. Production officially began on Monday.

Longmire will return for a fourth season on Netflix sometime this fall.
