The Castle season 7 finale may be delving into what happened when Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion) vanished at the end of season 6.

'Castle' Star Still Uncertain About Show's Future

The May finale of Castle will feature a "distinguished, highly intelligent" psychiatrist, according to a new report by TVLine. The episode is said to cover more of Castle and Beckett's (Stana Katic) mythology, particular the vanishing story arc that took place at the beginning of the season.

The report suggested that this will be the topic of discussion as the psychiatrist attempts to get Castle to remember the missing months in his mind.

The storyline is coming as a decision on a possible renewal for Castle is still up in the air. Stars Fillion and Katic are getting close to the end of their contracts and they apparently still haven't signed new ones. Additionally, ABC still hasn't made an announcement on if the show is returning in the fall for season 8.

Castle show runner David Amann still hopes to continue doing the show assuming they get the green light.

"It's kind of not up to me or [series creator] Andrew [Marlowe] - it's really between the studio and [the actors]," he admitted to TVLine back in December. "We don't have any control over that process, but internally we hope this all gets resolved sooner rather than later, so we can move forward."

Castle airs Mondays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
