Kathy Bates is apparently "running" the hotel in the upcoming fifth season of American Horror Story, subtitled Hotel.

American Horror Story boss Ryan Murphy tweeted the news Wednesday that Bates would be returning to the show for Hotel.

"Kathy Bates is running the Hotel. #AHSSeason5," he tweeted.

Could Gwyneth Paltrow Appear in 'American Horror Story: Hotel'?

Bates is the first official "star" to return to American Horror Story for season 5. All of the casting news for Hotel has surrounded new stars to the show, including Lady Gaga, Matt Bomer, Wes Bentley, Cheyenne Jackson and Chloë Sevigny. While Bomer, Bentley and Sevigny have appeared in the show in the past, it has only been through guest roles.

Murphy's comment that Bates will be "running the Hotel" is the first official indication of a specific character for the new season. Murphy and company have not revealed anything specific about Gaga, Bomer or anyone else's characters so far.

Hotel will be the first season without Jessica Lange. The legendary actress announced ahead of AHS: Freak Show that the fourth season would be her last and she has made no indication that she has changed her mind. Since Murphy announced that Bates is running the Hotel, this may suggest that she will become the new lead of the show.

More casting info is expected to be announced within the next few months, with production beginning in the summer.

American Horror Story: Hotel is expected to begin in October on FX, though the network has not yet announced a specific premiere date.
