There have been many ups and downs in Derek's life, but he constantly remains a fan favorite of the series.

Which Italian Actor Scored A Potential Recurring Role On 'Grey's Anatomy'?

Dempsey renewed his contract with the series in January 2014 for another two years, but things are not looking good since Page Six reported on Monday that a source revealed the actor "has been acting like a diva" on set.

He "has clashed with Shonda [Rhimes]," the series creator.

"She suspended him for a while, and the word on set is that he isn't coming back full time," the source dished.

Rhimes even told Entertainment Weekly back in January that Derek might disappear for a while.

"It's highly possible that we might not see Derek for a while. There will be a time when you see him again, yes, but it's probable that you won't see Derek for a while," she explained.

The Page Six source even mentioned prior issues with Dempsey's former costars, Katherine Heigl and Isaiah Washington.

Washington was fired in 2007 after reportedly fighting with Dempsey and for using a gay slur when referring to T.R. Knight.

Heigl criticized the writing of the show and pulled her name from Emmy consideration in 2008 before finally leaving in 2010.

"There is little tolerance on the show for troublesome talent," the source shared.

While it's not totally clear what will happen to Dempsey's character in the future, it is known that he will appear in the episode airing tonight, April 23, which you can watch a sneak peek for below.

Grey's Anatomy airs on Thursday nights at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
