Sophia (Laverne Cox) will have a significant storyline in season 3 of Netflix's Orange Is the New Black.

Cox recently spoke with TVLine to preview the third season of Orange Is the New Black, which comes out on Friday. The actress previewed Sophia's storyline as well as a certain location being the hub of power throughout the season.

"It's interesting that the kitchen is the center of power," Cox said. "Gloria's [Selenis Leyva] got that on lock, still, but there's some issues."

While Sophia "has her own little gig" in Litchfield's version of a beauty shop, "which is pretty cushy," she does end up in "some contentious situations" during season 3.

"I'm really curious to see if the audience continues to like Sophia after this season," Cox said.

There is a scene in the season 3 trailer that shows Gloria and Sophia in a standoff in the kitchen so it looks like there may be some conflict ahead between the ladies.

Meanwhile, Sophia is dealing with family matters as well, with her son Michael desperate for a father figure.

"There's a tremendous sense of powerlessness that Sophia has around her family," Cox said, with Michael desiring "a father more than a second mother, and she'll try to negotiate and navigate what that looks like." This ultimately "presents Sophia with some of the most challenging things that we've seen from her to date."

Cox's role in the show was mostly put on the back burner during season 2 so it should be interesting to see her step into the limelight again after we learned so much about her in the season 1 episode Lesbian Request Denied.

Orange Is the New Black season 3 will be released Friday on Netflix. All of the episodes will be released at once as usual.
