Schilling recently spoke with TVLine about Piper's journey towards self-actualization and working towards finding her true self.

Before prison, as Schilling explained, Piper "was colored by what she believed the status quo to be, how she was brought up and how she was socialized, essentially."

In the third season, Schilling said that Piper is "having to actually negotiate with some of her honest experiences and who she is in raw form."

The actress clarified: "I keep talking about it as a cracking-open. It's messy, but I don't think that change is a bad thing. It's on the road to authenticity."

Piper has gone through quite a journey since her Litchfield imprisonment, having gone to solitary confinement, almost having killed another prisoner and more. Most recently, she manipulated the system by getting her best friend to rat on Alex (Laura Prepon) to her parole officer, allowing her to come back to prison.

Now, Piper is dealing with Alex being in prison again along with a new potential love interest in Stella (Ruby Rose), a new inmate to Litchfield.

Orange Is the New Black season 3 is scheduled to be released on Friday on Netflix. All of the episodes will be released at once.
