The 15th annual world famous Christmas tree lighting ceremony "Christmas in Rockefeller Center" will telecast live on NBC and streamed online on Wednesday, Nov. 28 at 8/7c.

The televised holiday special will begin taping live performances from 7-9pm.

Guests scheduled to appear include "American Idol" judge Mariah Carey, "The Voice" mentor Cee-Lo Green, Disney star Victoria Justice, Chris Mann, Rod Stewart, Academy Award host Billy Crystal and Bette Milder. The Radio City Rockettes and The Muppets will also appear.

The event will unveil a well-trimmed Norway Spruce tree that is approximately 80 feet tall and weighs almost 10 tons, according to NBC. The tree was estimated to be 80 years old. It is reportedly decorated with 30,000 lights and topped with a Swarovski crystal star.

The inaugural Christmas tree was reportedly donated by a New Jersey resident who was affected by the Sandy Superstorm last month. Despite losing power and other trees, Joe Balku of Mount Olive, N.J. donated the  tree on display in Rockefeller Center in November.

The tradition of lighting up the Rockefeller Christmas tree began during the Great Depression. The first tree was decorated with 700 lights and unveiled in 1933. When the Rockefeller Plaza outdoor ice-skating pond opened in 1936, it helped make the annual ceremony even more special.

NBC first aired the tree lighting in 1951 on "The Kate Smith Show", during "Howdy Doody" television show from 1953-55.

The Rockefeller Center Christmas tree will remain on display for public viewing daily until January 7th, 2013.
