While two other successful films funded by Kickstarter campaigns have seen successful released in theaters, the Blue Mountain State movie is still struggling to get underway.

In a backer update for the film, which was funded successfully by fans who were eager to see the abruptly cancelled Spike series about a college football team, series creator Eric Falconer apologized for the production delay, which saw the film pushed back from August to October, but did say that despite the film needing more money, it was still slated for a Spring 2015 release date.

"Our biggest obstacle right now, and forever, is money. We've written an epic script and epic scripts cost money to shoot," he said. "When the dust settled after this Kickstarter ended, the amount we were left with was around $1.4 million. (The other $500K went to Kickstarter, Amazon, dropped donations, and fulfillment of the Kickstarter rewards-which are coming soon. Hang tight.) $1.4 million is a lot of money, but for a movie production, this barely covers union labor costs for the crew."

"In order to ensure you, our BMS backers and fans, get the movie you want and deserve, we've decided to reach out to investors for some additional gap financing," he continues. "We're currently in the process of securing these additional funds and locking our budget. Once this falls into place, we'll be off to the races."

The original show, which ran for three seasons on Spike TV, followed a group of college football players as they tried defending their state title-focusing mostly on incoming freshmen Alex Moran (Darin Brooks) and Sammy (Chris Romano), as well as team captain, Thad (Alan Ritchson). All three are scheduled to return for the film, alongside Denise Richards, Ed Marinaro and Sam Jones III.
