Finn Wittrock may be playing a different kind of character in the new season of American Horror Story, but there are actually some surprising similarities to his Freak Show character.

Why Isn't Zachary Quinto Returning To 'American Horror Story'?

Wittrock, who played sociopathic man-child Dandy Mott in Freak Show, is returning to play an entirely new character in Hotel, the upcoming fifth season of the horror anthology series. He will play Tristan Duffy, a former model.

The actor explained how his Hotel character will fit into the framework of the series in a new interview with TVGuide.com (video featured below).

"We kind of find him when he's getting over the modeling world," Wittrock said. "He leaves and he goes in search - in the hotel searching for drugs. And then is found by Matt Bomer and also found by Lady Gaga who, she kind of is enamored by his antics."

A love triangle will occur between the three characters (Gaga plays hotel owner Elizabeth while Bomer plays Donovan, a hotel resident). As it turns out, Wittrock's Tristan will have an addiction problem, just like Dandy's penchant for murder and sadism.

"He's always looking for a high and he does start to find that high in unusual places, like it might have to do with hurting other people," Wittrock said.

Wittrock is riding high these days due to his recent Emmy nomination for playing Dandy in Freak Show. Tune in to Fox on Sunday, Sept. 20 to see if he takes home the Emmy for his breakthrough performance.

American Horror Story: Hotel premieres Wednesday, Oct. 7 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on FX.
