The highly acclaimed horror RPG “Dark Souls” is set to launch its second installment. However, fans of the game’s series, which originally kicked off with Demon’s Souls on the PlayStation 3, may not like its new directors’ approach to the sequel.

It will be the series’ first game that’s not led by creator Hidetaka Miyazaki. In place of him will be co-directors Tomohiro Shibuya and Yui Tanimura, while Miyazaki will stay on board as more of a supervisor.

According to Edge magazine, Shibuya and Tanimura have plans to “mould Dark Souls 2 into a more approachable form.”

In the Dec. 20 issue of the publication, Shibuya was very direct with his fans regarding his strategy for the game play of “Dark Souls II.”

“I personally am the sort of person who likes to be more direct than subtle … [Dark Souls II] will be more straightforward and more understandable.”

Though “Dark Souls 2” will seemingly break away from its difficult challenges, with the hopes of receiving a better response to the game, it will surely upset several of the gamers who never had an issue with it in the first place.

“We sympathise if that sort of statement concerns you, but at the same time, we can surely agree that we would all like to see Dark Souls attain as great a presence as The Elder Scrolls. How it gets there is a worthy matter for debate, but it’s certainly a notable task,” Shibuya said.

“Our goal is to surprise and delight our fans with new experiences and plat twists while enticing new players to join our dark journey,” he continued.

Although the game’s release date in the U.S. has yet to be revealed, it’s been confirmed that the popular series’ latest installment will ultimately be available for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 platforms, according to T3.
