Eighty nine beautiful women from around the world will display their eccentric beauty on Dec. 19 during the Miss Universe 2012 competition to be broadcast on NBC at 8pm EST.

The remaining 16 semifinalists will be announced on Wednesday and judges will crown Miss Universe 2012 at the end of a 2-hour telecast that will feature swimsuit and evening gown displays and interviews.

A preliminary competition was held on Dec. 13 and on Dec. 14 the National Costume show took place in Las Vegas, where the women hit the runway in a costume that best represented their country.

Past costumes have included an interpretation of El Dia de Los Muertos to costumes evoking tropical forests.
