Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes were able to spoil now one-year-old daughter Esmeralda Amada rotten over the weekend after they threw their daughter a birthday party with her family.

Could Ryan Gosling Be On A Third Season Of 'True Detective'?

The notoriously private couple-who have successfully kept their daughter shielded from paparazzi photos thus far, celebrated the happy occasion with their daughter at home on Saturday, inviting only close friends and family to the event.

Eschewing the idea of inviting any of their celeb friends or other children, the couple kept things very intimate, with Mendes' sister, Janet and Gosling's mom, Donna and older sister, Mandi, also spotted arriving at the couple's home-with Mandi even carrying in a chocolate cake topped with raspberries. Gifts spotted included a rocking horse, ball pit accessories and a Disney baby bag.

Are Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes Engaged?

"It was a pretty quiet family affair," an eyewitness told ET. "There was no music or any sign of other babies or older kids."

The low-key affair is the kind fans would have expected from the couple, who tend to keep information about their private lives out of the public eye. Mendes even managed to keep her pregnancy a secret for seven months before the news about it broke, and after the news came out, successfully avoided having any photos taken of her baby bump.

The couple have also kept quiet about recent speculation concerning an emerald ring Mendes has been spotted wearing on several occasions on her right ring finger, which some have speculated may be an engagement ring that is intentionally being worn on the wrong hand to keep the news from being confirmed publicly.

If the ring is a sign of an engagement, then speculation will likely begin that the quiet affair for Esmeralda's bday may have also secretly been a small affair to celebrate the couple as well.
