The Green Bay Packers (10-4) will host the Tennessee Titans (5-9) at Lambeau Field on Sunday. While the Packers are already a lock for the playoffs, coach Mike McCarthy isn't about to rest his starters, as he realizes the relevance of the first-round bye, which is within the team's reach.
If Green Bay can pull out a win over the underdog Titans, the club would drastically help its chances of garnering a bye.
"We want the bye week, make no bones about it. It's important to have a healthy football team, and if you have an opportunity to achieve the bye week, that's what we're working for," McCarthy told ESPN.
"I'm making it clear right now. We're going to play all the way through," he added.
Although QB Aaron Rogers was off for two weeks before last season's playoff upset at the hands of the New York Giants, he will surely be closing out this season. The Packers must be victorious in its remaining two games combined with a San Francisco 49ers loss in one of their two matchups in order to be the No. 2 seed.
"There's a lot to play for. We learned last year you have to be playing the right way at the end of the season. It would be nice to get that (No. 2) seed. The (No. 1) seed is going to be tough, but the (No. 2) seed is probably doable," Rogers said.
Against the Chicago Bears last week, Rogers hit James Jones on three touchdown passes going 23-for-36 with 291 yards. Randall Cobb also put up a notable performance with six receptions for 115 yards along with 37 kick return yards.
