To track Santa in this 2012 Christmas Eve, children can visit the website of the NORAD (noradsanta.org) where a third dimension map provides live updates of Santa's journey around the world. (SEE LIVE TRACKER BELOW)

The tracker uses four high-tech systems to track Santa - radar, satellites, Santa Cams and fighter jets, including one that detecs an infrared signature from Rudolph's red nose to locate Rudolph and Santa, according to the NORAD. Live updates of Santa's current location are updated in the website in the form of a 3-D map. For example, at 4:42 pm EST Santa was in Maputo, Mozambique heading to Cape Town, South Africa, according to NORAD. The tracking service also provides the location where he was last spotted and the place to which he is headed for every 3 minutes.

As of the writing of this story, Santa had delivered over 3 billion gifts in his journey around the world, according to the NORAD's tracker which belongs to the North American Aerospace Defense Command.

Santa Tracker 2012 is also available as a mobile app developed by the NORAD which has tracked Santa's journey for more than fifty years. The app shows Santa stopping by famous landmarks like the Great Wall of China and the Eiffel Tower. Kids can also play games and watch videos related to Santa's world-wide annual trip.

"All of the preparations for Santa's journey are in place!" reads a statement on the NORAD Tracks Santa website. "Santa's elves have been busier than usual this year preparing for Santa's launch on December 24th! Return each day to receive updates from the North Pole and to discover new surprises on Santa's Activity Page."

The Colorado-based organization has tracked Santa's annual journey for 57-years.

"Every December 24th since 1955 we have been telling children exactly where Santa is so that children all over the world can make sure that they're in bed on time so that Santa will deliver their presents," explained Stacey Knott, a deputy chief at NORAD, according to Reuters.

Children can also call 1-877-HI-NORAD or email noradtrackssanta@outlook.com on Christmas Eve to receive Santa's up-to-date location during the night. In 2011, over 102,000 phone calls and 7,700 emails came in to NORAD which prompted the organization to develop the app.

NORAD is a bi-national organization between the U.S. and Canada is responsible for aerospace warning by tracking missiles, aircraft and space vehicles that could potentially harm North America.

When is Santa Arriving in the U.S?

Although NORAD cannot predict where and when Santa will arrive in houses in the United States, it seems Santa arrives between 9:00 p.m. and midnight on December 24th. However the site says that from history, it appears Santa arrives only when children are asleep.

"If children are still awake when Santa arrives, he moves on to other houses. He returns later...but only when the children are asleep!," says the site.
