The public was not happy when Michelle Collins and Joy Behar made a comment about Miss Colorado Kelley Johnson at the Miss America pageant during her nurse monologue. Collins called this "hilarious" and said Johnson "basically read her emails out loud."

Behar then asked, "Why does she have a doctor's stethoscope on?" as Collins added, "She helps patients with Alzheimer's, which I know is not funny, but I swear you had to see it."

When people threw negative criticism and demanded an apology, Collins responded in Wednesday's episode of the talk show.

"I want to say, we love nurses, if you're watching, we adore you, we respect you. Clap for the nurses," the co-host said. "You are wonderful and the most compassionate people."

Collins added that her comments were "misconstrued" and that nurses deserve more.

"By the way, if your bosses are watching, you all deserve raises," she said. "This is how much I love nurses. Give them more money. Take my money."

Behar responded as well, admitting she was "not paying attention."

"I was looking at a Miss America tape and there's a woman wearing like an outfit," she said. "And I'm thinking, 'Is she in costume?' I didn't know she was a nurse. I'm used to seeing them in gowns and bathing suits. It is not like I was trying to be funny. It was stupid and inattentive on my part."
