'SNL' & Amy Schumer Took On Gun Control Laws In A Sketch & Reaction Is Pretty Divisive

Schumer hosted SNL for the first time on Saturday and received positive reviews from critics. The comedian doled out some edgy material during her opening monologue and really committed to each of her sketch appearances.

So will this appearance result in an Emmy nomination for Guest Actress in a Comedy Series? Schumer broke through at this year's Emmys, scoring nominations for Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, Directing for a Variety Series, Writing for a Variety Series and Variety Sketch Series, all for her Comedy Central show Inside Amy Schumer. She ended up taking home the win for Variety Sketch Series, over Saturday Night Live, ironically.

Assuming Schumer's popularity continues in 2016, she could easily pick up a nomination for hosting SNL. Past SNL hosts/guests who have gotten nominations in the Guest Actress category include Tina Fey, Betty White, Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy and Maya Rudolph. Schumer certainly has the same humorous edge as those actresses, so a nomination seems likely.

Schumer could even win this category if she doesn't have strong competition. Fey and White won this category in 2009 and 2010, respectively, for their SNL appearances.

Saturday Night Live airs Saturdays at 11:30 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
