The Vampire Diaries is really going to start exploring the ins and outs of its lesbian heretic couple Mary Louise (Teressa Liane) and Nora (Scarlett Byrne).

Will Matt & Bonnie On 'The Vampire Diaries' Find Romance This Season?

In the last episode viewers got a taste of Mary Louise's overprotectiveness toward Nora at the expense of Caroline (Candice King) and Byrne is spilling some details on what else is coming up for their relationship.

Byrne spoke with MTV News recently, dishing, "Mary Louise is very protective of Nora," but Byrne seems to think her character is the tougher one.

How Snippy Will Damon Get With Bonnie During 'The Vampire Diaries' Season 7?

"I think [Nora] is the stronger one of our relationship," Byrne said, explaining, "Nora is so cool, and she's super psyched to be in this new world... You'll see later in the show, she's a lot more tech-y and things like that. She just wants to be a cool young heretic, and just get to have a good time, whereas Mary Louise is a bit more uptight and isn't as secure in their relationship right now."

If viewers think back to the first episode of the new season, Mary Louise had difficulty showing affection to Nora in public. She definitely is struggling with the security she feels in their relationship.

"Them being in the prison world for so long, there was security there, because Mary Louise knew there wasn't going to be any distraction. And it was always just the two of them," Byrne dished about her character's other half, adding, "So now, Mary Louise is a lot more anxious - and I think a bit scared, possibly - to lose Nora."

The Vampire Diaries airs on Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
