The Netflix series Mako Mermaids will be back for its fourth season next year, probably in the spring.

It'll feature a new mermaid named Weilan (Linda Ngo) who brings trouble to Mako in the form of a Chinese water dragon. Ondina (Isabel Durant) won't be fond of her, but Mimmi (Allie Bertram) will play peacemaker.

Enstars spoke with Canadian actress Bertram about the upcoming season and more.

Enstars: We heard you were afraid of fish prior to taking the role of Mimmi on Mako Mermaids. How did you overcome that fear?
Allie Bertram: When I took the role of Mimmi, I knew I was going to have to overcome my fear of fish, considering there is no such thing as a mermaid with a fish phobia. During pre-production the whole cast went swimming at the reef pool which is loaded with sharks, rays, and hundreds of fish. I knew I had to dive right in. I spent most of the time curled up in a ball hoping the fish wouldn't touch me, once I realized they were more scared of me, I was able to swim among them.

You first appeared on the series last season as Mimmi, but as a refresher just tell us about her especially where things were left off at the end of the season.
Mimmi has always been a true mermaid, meaning she is very magical and fully embraces her moon ring, and the spells that go with it. Mimmi is very eager to learn everything about sea and land. At the end of season three Mimmi has saved Mako Island by destroying the Merman Chamber therefore making the island safe for all mermaids. Mimmi also ends the season with a new relationship, her brother [Zac portrayed by Chai Romruen], a merman who can be trusted.

How will Mimmi's friendship with Ondina shift with newcomer Weilan in the mix?
Mimmi acts as the middleman when newcomer Weilan shows up at Mako. There is some tension between Mimmi and Ondina because Ondina doesn't trust the newcomer, but Mimmi sides with Weilan and wants her to feel comfortable at her new home.

The Chinese water dragon threatening the Mako pod and the entire Gold Coast is obviously a big part of this season so what can viewers expect from Mimmi in terms of her trying to diffuse the situation?
Like always, Mimmi is very curious. [In regard to] the threatening water dragon, Mimmi wants to find out where it's from, why it came, and what does it have to do with Mako.

Cariba Heine is reprising her role of Rikki Chadwick from H2O: Just Add Water in this season of Mako Mermaids so what was it like working with her?
It was a joy to work with Cariba Heine. It was so nice sharing stories and talking about what it's like filming, and hearing that she had similar stories and experiences. It was fun to see her examine our upgraded version of our mermaid tails and tell stories about her tail.

What can viewers expect with the crossover since Rikki is one of the original mermaids from this series' parent show?
I think fans have always wondered if Mako Mermaids was the prequel to H2O, and in season four you will find out how these two worlds are connected. Also, maybe all these mermaids could meet again...

What was it like working with this cast?
It is so much fun working with the cast. We all get along really well. Everyone is very professional and has made me a better actor just by watching them. We definitely enjoy each other's company.

Share a funny moment from on set of the fourth season.
I had my first run in on season four or swim in. I was filming an underwater sequence, and I swam straight into a stingray! I watched the playback and it was so funny to see my face drop and me freak out underwater.

Will there be a fifth season of Mako Mermaids? Or is a movie in the works?
I am not sure about a fifth season or movie in the works, however I know I'd like to get back into my tail at some point.

Switching gears, we also know you're really into fashion so what's your staple fall ensemble?
I have always loved fashion and insisted on dressing myself from a very young age. My staple fall ensemble is [an] oversized sweater and anything that is suede.

How about winter?
Winter is all about boots and hats for me! I love wearing knit beanies! They seem to go with everything.
