Hurricane Patricia Makes Landfall in Mexico [VIDEO]
A hurricane called 'Patricia' has made landfall on the coast of Mexico, Oct. 23, with winds nearing 200 mph. Hurricane Patricia is said to be one of the strongest hurricanes that ever recorded in Western hemisphere.
Dave Roberts, a hurricane specialist at the U.S. National Hurricane Center said on Friday morning that the hurricane is the strongest storm ever recorded in the in the Pacific or in the Atlantic. The storm is even more powerful than the deadly typhoon Haiyan that left the Philippines with a staggering 7,300 death toll last 2013.
Patricia's strength also surpassed hurricane Katrina, as well as hurricane Andrew. Experts say that Patricia's strength is due to the above normal warm water temperatures across a wide span of the Pacific. The temperature later made an explosive intensification. To make things worse, upper-level crosswinds that could have controlled the hurricane were gone on Thursday.
Mexican officials have declared a state of emergency-- emergency evacuations were under way, schools are turned into make shift shelters and the population among the coast of Mexico are gearing up for what experts are saying to be a 'potentially catastrophic landfall.'
