What will be the catalyst for Batman (Ben Affleck) and Superman's (Henry Cavill) conflict in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice?

How Will Ben Affleck's Batman Differ From Christian Bale's Portrayal?

Cavill and Affleck spoke with Total Film (via Variety) recently where they discussed the dynamic of their respective characters in relation to each other. Cavill was very upfront in revealing just how their conflict begins.

"What happens there is one of Bruce [Wayne]'s buildings gets destroyed and he's trying to save all the people inside the building and he can't," Cavill explained. "So he is this angry person who fears what Superman may do. Why are they just going to trust this super-powered alien? What if he does decide to turn against us?"

Affleck added that Batman feels a great amount of "rage" for Superman, and this emotion is explored further in the film.

"So it's how he got there, and what that's done to him, and what that's done to people around him like Alfred [Jeremy Irons], who are, I think, very scared and worried for him. It's something that's interesting and new," Affleck said.

Meanwhile, Affleck addressed the possibility of directing, writing and starring in a Batman solo film in the future.

"If I could make it work, yeah, obviously that would be like a dream," he said. "The trick is, as to any movie, is to make sure that you - if you're going to direct it - that you can make it good. You've got to have the right idea and the right take on it... Broadly speaking, it's something I'd be open to, for sure. It's a very exciting idea."

But in the mean time, Affleck is working under the direction of Zack Snyder, who is in charge of Batman v Superman and the upcoming Justice League films.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is scheduled for release in theaters on March 25, 2016.
