Elizabeth Banks is returning to direct Pitch Perfect 3 according to reports.

Banks has helmed the second in the series and is going to continue making acapella magic with the third film. Anna Kendrick, who will be reprising her role as Beca in the third chapter as well, announced that the third movie was happning via Instagram four months ago.

Recently it was also revealed that Brittany Snow would be returning as Chloe for the film. Rebel Wilson is also on board. The script is being penned by Kay Canon.

While the critics had mixed feelings about Pitch Perfect 2, the movie was a major success at the box office. The movie raked in $282 million worldwide, with $20 million just in America on its opening weekend. In Germany, the movie made $1.5 million on the opening day which is up 229% from the original movie. In Australia, the release was down only 37% and in New Zealand it was down only 39%.

'Flashlight' was one of the major hits from the second movie and Jason Moore, who directed the original film and produced Pitch Perfect 2, spoke about the song and the music in the film, going on to speculate about the third movie.

"The original musical draft was the same, but the lyrics were quite dark, but the lyric 'Flashlight' was always there, and I always liked that it was kind of a simple, sweet notion-it felt appropriate for the age group and that kind of friendship," said Moore.

When asked if a threequel would be in the works and if it would have its own song as well, Moore had said: "It's too early to tell, but who knows? 'Flashlight' felt like a natural part of the story. Maybe there's a new way that we try and integrate a new kind of song, if there's another opportunity to do so."

Pitch Perfect 3 is set to release on July 21, 2017.
