Agents of SHIELD's Jemma Simmons is becoming an expert at long distance relationships.

'The Flash' Season 2: Meet Iris' Brother; EP Dishes On Wally West's New Identity

For months, the SHIELD agent kept hope alive in the face of insurmountable odds. One failed message in a bottle later, however, and the prospects of ever returning to Earth seemed down to zero. As the clock ticked forward in "4,722 Hours," it was time for Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) to find a new way of living - a new life, a new planet, a new man.

Now that Jemma is back on Earth and Will (Dillon Casey) is trapped in a galaxy far, far away, the FitzSimmons 'ship is stuck in dry dock. Does Simmons really love Will, or is there still hope for a romance between SHIELD's science wonder twins? According to Henstridge, the answers are yes and yes.

"She is [in love with Will]," Henstridge told E! Online. "Their connection is a very visceral one, and it's about surviving, and it's very primal. So, it's a very different love than she has for Fitz, but yeah, she's in love with him."

As Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) and Simmons work to rescue the stranded aviator, their relationship will take a nosedive. Despite everything, however, FitzSimmons won't crash and burn.

"There's a huge elephant in the room, and it's going to get called out a few times, and it's going to be painful," Henstridge teased. "Get the tissues ready because it gets worse before it gets better."
