One Direction concluded their On The Road Again Tour on Halloween in England, but prior to the final tour gig before they take a break starting early next year, Liam Payne opened up about his future plans.

Payne has been going through a lot of emotional turmoil lately since he did in fact split from his girlfriend Sophia Smith. Plus, there is that uncertainty of what he will be up to once the break officially kicks off for him, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Harry Styles.

Payne revealed to British publication The Sun that he is "absolutely devastated" about his relationship with Smith coming to an end, but he does see hope in his future regardless of the pain he feels right now.

"Being on the tour all this year and being away from her was so hard. We spent so much time apart," the 22-year-old explained, adding, "But in order to do right by somebody sometimes it's better not to do what your heart wants, but to do what's better for them."

He isn't totally down and out though.

"Right now I'm looking forward to some alone time to figure out who I am and what I want to be," he dished, adding, "I'm starting to think about next year when we take a break from the band for a while. I'm going into music publishing, collaborating and writing songs for other artists."

Payne has co-penned many 1D tracks over the years so it is a good fit for him that he's clearly passionate about.

"I'm very excited to see the business from the other side. I feel I have built up a lot of knowledge of the craft of songwriting, so I think this will work really well," Payne shared.

He also thinks he'll work with his bandmate Tomlinson since the oldest 1D lad will be getting involved on the label side of things.

"I still want to work with Louis as he is going into the label side of things, so the two match up perfectly. Hopefully we can develop some great artists together," Payne stated.

It seems like despite hitting so many bumps lately, Payne has a distinct plan in mind that will surely pan out well.
