A French woman by the name of Charlotte Farhan has been making headlines for her decision not to change her profile picture to a customizable, translucent overlay of the French flag. With over 128,000 likes on Facebook, Farhan's viral words have made a big and unexpected statement about how the world selectively digests tragedy.

According to the
Daily Mail, the Paris native who now lives in Portsmouth, United Kingdom, explained via her Facebook status that if she were to change her profile photo in the event of every worldwide atrocity, she would be doing so constantly.

In response to both praise and criticism of her now highly publicized Facebook post, Farhan wrote to her followers, "...I have no issue with those using the flag as their own profile picture, I just explained why I as a FRENCH person did not."

As an artist and editor of the magazine Art Saves Lives, Farhan is somewhat of a public figure, making her statement one of countless shared sentiments across the web. Though strong opinions regarding tendentious media coverage and sympathy bias have been circulating across the web, Farhan serves as a relatable poster child for unbiased awareness as it applies to what has become senseless and commonplace violence occurring all over the world.
