2015 was a fantastic year for movie buffs, particularly if you're a fan of sci-fi and book adaptations. There was Mad Max: Fury Road, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Avengers: Age of Ultron and of course, we're still waiting on whether or not Star Wards Episode VII: The Force Awakens deserves to be remembered.

With all the brilliant films we saw this year, we're getting even more psyched for what's to come next year. Already making plans for your future movie binge? We've got you covered.

IMDB's Top 25 Movies In Twenty-Five Years List Feature 'Interstellar' And 'Batman Begins'

Here are some of the most highly anticipated films of 2016.

1. Deadpool

It's easily one of the films we're most anxious to see. Granted, we already somehow saw him as a missed shot in X-Men Origins: Wolverine but that doesn't begin to justify how rich this anti-hero character is.

"The Merc with a mount" was once a Special Forces operative who ended up being experimented on, which left his face ruined along with his sanity. With the cast including Morena Baccarin, Ed Skrein, T.J. Miller, and Gina Carano, we can't wait to see how Ryan Reynolds plays this out. He should be feeling the pressure by now. We all know how Green Lantern panned out.

2. Independence Day: Resurgence

Ask any seasoned moviegoer about the best patriotic movies ever and Independence Day is among their best bets. That's more than enough reason for us to anticipate its sequel.

Fox lays out the plot: "Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens' advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction."

Will Smith won't reprise his role but Bill Pullman and Jeff Goldblum will along with new characters to be played by Liam Hemsworth and Maika Monroe.

3. Captain America: Civil War

Comic book readers and film buffs would agree that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is the franchise that has made the most progress by far. We all know how Marvel makes it work: Superheroes join powers to defeat all evil in the world. But what if Captain America and Iron Man end up fighting each other into a civil war?

Expect to see Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, and Paul Bettany to reprise their roles. Plus, Tom Holland and Chadwick Boseman appearing as Spiderman and Black Panther.

4. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

DC Entertainment refuses to eat the crumbs MCU is leaving behind by kicking off their comic book adaptations. This time, we have what might be the world's most legendary superhero stand off.

The Man of Steel and the Dark Knight are known to be both enemies and allies in the comics. So we can expect a ton of breathtaking action sequences in this film. Henry Cavill will reprise his role of Superman, while we finally get to see Ben Affleck in a Batman suit. Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, and Ezra Miller in the roles of Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and The Flash also complete the star-lit ensemble.
