Being a great actor is often times all about commitment. Ashton Kutcher took this idea and pushed it to extreme levels by going on a dangerous fruitarian diet just like Steve Jobs, the subject of his new indie bio flick. Unlike Jobs though, Kutcher’s fruit only diet landed him in the hospital with severe pancreatic complications.

“First of all, the fruitarian diet can lead to like severe issues”, Kutcher told USA Today at the Sundance Festival Screening for “Jobs.”

As a dedicated method actor, Kutcher soon learned that preparation for “Jobs” would be no walk in the park.

“I went to the hospital like two day before we started shooting the movie. I was doubled over in pain,” he explained. “My pancreas levels were all out of whack.” He noted, “It was really terrifying…considering everything.”

A fruitarian diet consists of a person consuming only plant-based foods that can be eaten without harming the plant. Fruit, lettuce, greens, cucumbers, nuts, seeds and squash are just a few of the foods allowed on the diet. Kutcher was lucky to have heeded to the warning signs early on. The health concerns of going on fruit diets run the gamut from acquiring weak bones, vitamin B-12 deficiency, iron deficiency anemia, and even psycho social issues.

In the 2011 biography “Steve Jobs” by Walter Isaacson, the author explained how the tech legend would regularly go on these fruit-based diets. In the best-selling book, Jobs told Isaacs, “I was on one of my fruitarian diets” when he came up with the name for Apple.

Apple’s founding partner, Steve Wozniak has been very vocal about his disappointment with the depiction of his relationship with Jobs in the film.

Wozniak opened up to Gizmodo about how he feels he was depicted thus far.

“Not close. We never had such interaction and roles. I’m not even sure what it’s getting at. Personalities are very wrong although mine is closer.”

Jobs had a coy and shy demeanor, but his personality shined whenever he spoke at press conferences about new technological advances he planned throughout his time at the helm of the company. Still, it is hard to view Jobs as the boisterous and outspoken character portrayed by Kutcher.

Wozniak also explained that the context of the conversation between him and Jobs was way off the mark.

“Don’t forget that my purpose was inspired by the values of the Homebrew Computer Club along with the ideas of the value of such machines and Steve J. wasn’t around and didn’t attend the club so he was the one learning about such social impact of the future.”

Though unhappy with the first clip of the film, Wozniak is willing to give it a chance if it entertains audiences.

Wozniak told Gizmodo, “It’s only one clip. The movie should be very popular and I hope it’s entertaining. It may be very correct as well. This is only one clip. But you’ll see the direction they are slanting the movie, just by the dialogue in this script.”
