Now that Castle (Nathan Fillion) and Beckett (Stana Katic) are at least back to working together (and secretly seeing each other), upcoming Castle episodes will have a bit more fun to them.

Why Won't Kate Move In With Rick After 'Castle' Winter Finale Progress?

Castle fans had to suffer through several episodes of Castle and Beckett being separated due to her wanting to protect him as she worked on the LokSat mystery. But as we saw in the midseason finale on Monday, they will get back to working with each other and getting together in private for some intimate moments.

New Castle showrunners Alexi Hawley and Terence Paul Winter spoke with The Hollywood Reporter after the episode and talked why the chose to separate the couple and what's ahead as they get back together.

'Castle' Fans Confused As ABC Pushes Winter Premiere Back To February

"I think it [the breakup] gave us the opportunity to do things we couldn't do otherwise," Hawley said. "I think it was important to dig into their character a little bit in ways you can only do through obstacles."

"These are two characters that have been through a lot over the last eight years," Winter added. "A lot of emotionally tense, traumatic experiences. Some of the things we've put these folks through ... There's going to be stuff both Beckett and Castle have to work through. Right now we're all able to rejoice because they are back together. It's fun and it's sexy."

However, the show runners also revealed that Castle and Beckett would still be maintaining the story of their "separation" in public so as to not raise suspicions.

Castle returns for the second half of season 8 on Monday, Feb. 1 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
