From the timing of the announcement, it appears Roger and Brianna may not make their debut until late in season 2. Considering the duo technically doesn't appear until Diana Gabaldon's fourth book, Drums of Autumn, a turn in the season finale wouldn't be unexpected.

Roger will undoubtedly come into the story when Brianna, who was raised in post-war America, decides to go looking for the parents she never knew. For the ambitious 20-something, her journey into the past will be very literal.
