The new development for Hodgins (T.J. Thyne) on Fox's Bones will "test" his relationship with Angela (Michaela Conlin), but will they weather the storm?

Why Isn't 'Bones' On Fox's Midseason Schedule?

SPOILERS for the latest episode of Bones ahead:

Tragedy struck in the midseason finale of Bones when an explosion caused Hodgins to become paralyzed due to sustained injuries. And there won't be much hope of a recovery anytime soon, according to Bones executive producer Michael Peterson.

"You can't say never, but as far as we're concerned, he's going to be wheelchair-bound," Peterson confirmed to TVGuide.com recently. "It's a process. There's all these different stages of dealing with a tragedy--you go through anger, you go through denial--and he's really going to hit every single one of them. It affects his job, it affects his relationship with Angela and his kids."

How Hodgins & Angela Will Have A 'Difficult' Time Going Forward On 'Bones'

Peterson compared Hodgins' new attitude to that of Gregory House, the often grumpy lead character played by Hugh Laurie in Fox's House.

Meanwhile, Thyne spoke with TVGuide.com as well and talked about what this will do to Hodgins' relationship with Angela. The actor admitted that he has "faith" in the two of them, despite the great difficulties ahead.

"They truly love each other. They chose each other. They want to be with each other through thick and thin, through difficult and happy," he said. "They are meant to be together, but this is really going to test that. Not knowing how this is going to turn out, my faith is in them. I have faith that they will make it through, as difficult as it may be, that they, I think, are the perfect marriage and they will find a way through, for better or worse."

Bones season 11 does not yet have a 2016 premiere date.
