We will see a great evolution in Rumplestiltskin (Robert Carlyle) in the second half of the season on ABC's Once Upon a Time.

'Once Upon a Time' Showrunners Talk 'Regina the Savior' Story Arc

Rumple has become the Dark One again on Once Upon a Time, but he will continue to grow more complex in the episodes to come. OUAT co-creators Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz spoke about this and more in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly.

"Yeah, Rumple is an evolving character, so yes, he's going to be continuing to grow and change based on all the experiences we've seen him go through over the course of the show," Horowitz said.

Is Hook Still 'Dark' On 'Once Upon a Time' While Living In Underworld?

As for Belle (Emilie de Ravin), the wife of Rumple will still be present on the show despite de Ravin's real life pregnancy. But it remains to be seen if her pregnancy will be written into the show.

"She's on the show," Horowitz confirmed. "So if anyone is concerned that, because of the pregnancy, they're not going to be seeing her, that's not the case."

So what would happen if Rumple were to become a father? Rumple is the Dark One, so what effect would that have on the baby?

"Oh, who knows?" Kitsis teased, with Horowitz adding, "That's a great question."

Kitsis observed: "We haven't see one yet."

It remains to be seen if Rumple and Belle will be traveling with our heroes into the depths of the Underworld, as is the plan to rescue Hook (Colin O'Donoghue) in the second half of the season.

Once Upon a Time returns for the second half of season 5 on Sunday, March 6 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
