Katy Perry was spotted wearing a new ring on her left ring finger after a Valentine's Day date with beau John Mayer, which sparked rumors that the couple was engaged.

After Perry, 27 and Mayer, 35 were photographed leaving a restaurant in Los Angeles on Feb. 14, Perry was spotted wearing a gold ring, leaving many to question if Mayer proposed. However, a source told People, "They're not engaged."

"They aren't engaged and I wouldn't anticipate to see them engaged anytime soon," a different source told HollywoodLife.com. "It was purchased by John over a week ago in Montecito."

Celebrating the love-bird holiday, the couple shared a romantic dinner at The Cut in Los Angeles' Brentwood neighborhood on Feb. 14. The duo also watched a movie at the historic Vista Theatre in East Hollywood, according to TMZ. When their date ended, Perry tweeted, "Happy Thursday everyone!"

The gold ring Perry received as a Valentine's gift features a heart-shaped ruby and was designed by Daniel Gibbings, a jeweler/designer based in the singer's hometown of Santa Barbara, Calif.

In an interview with CBS This Morning on Feb. 10, Mayer explained why his relationship with Perry felt more satisfying than those with ex- girlfriends like Jennifer Aniston, Minka Kelly and Jennifer Love Hewitt.

"I don't feel like I'm in a celebrity relationship," the singer/songwriter said of dating Perry. "For the first time in my life I don't feel like I'm in a celebrity relationship. I really don't. I'm not in a high profile, I know it's high profile. It's hard to explain."

Perry was previously married to British comedian Russell Brand. The two called it quits only after 14 months of marriage in December 2011 and their divorce was finalized seven months later in July of 2012.
