Anne Hathaway issued an apology on Tuesday for any confusion caused by those who thought she would wear a Valentino gown to the 85th Annual Academy Awards on Sunday, following a statement released by the brand that said she would wear one of its creations.

Maison Valentino released a statement hours before the red carpet began on Sunday confirming that they would dress the Les Miserables actress in a couture gown, according to Vogue. However, Hathaway arrived at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles wearing a pale pink Prada column dress.

Hathaway's publicist released an official statement on Tuesday night saying the 30-year-old actress changed dresses at the last minute because they found out that another Oscars attendee was set to wear a similar gown.

"It came to my attention late Saturday night that there would be a dress worn to the Oscars that is remarkably similar to the Valentino I had intended to wear, and so I decided it was best for all involved to change my plans," said Hathaway. "It was a difficult last-minute decision as I had so looked forward to wearing Valentino in honour of the deep and meaningful relationship I have enjoyed with the house and with Valentino himself. I deeply regret any disappointment caused."

It has not been confirmed which Valentino dress Hathaway was originally planned to wear.

She and the designer have a close relationship created from her wearing Valentino for numerous other occasions. She wore a red Valentino dress to the 2011 Oscars and Valentino Garavani custom designed her wedding dress, describing her as "like my daughter."

At the New York City Ballet gala in September of 2012, she wore a long-sleeved, floral sheer gown also created by Valentino from its fall 2012 collection. Garavani himself escorted Hathaway down the red carpet. Earlier, at Valentino's White Fairy Tale Love Ball in France, she wore a flowing gown that she paired with a floral tiara and red lips. Celebrities bring out their best for the annual Met Gala and at the 2010 event, Hathaway arrived in a Valentino nude-colored, sweetheart-shaped gown.

At the 2013 Academy Awards on Sunday, Hathaway took home her first ever Oscar: Best Actress in a Supporting Role. Watch her acceptance speech in the video below.
