Sofia Vergara's Modern Family character Gloria welcomed a baby boy on the award-winning comedy in January and now the real-life mother-of-one is looking to have a second child.

The 40-year-old, who is already a mother to her son Manolo, 20, is expecting a baby via surrogate with her fiance' Nick Loeb, according to a source. An insider revealed that Vergara enlisted the help of one of her close friends to carry the baby for her to full-term as opposed to recruiting a complete stranger.

"Rather than going through the trying process of hiring a stranger to serve as a surrogate, Sofia hand-picked one of her healthiest and closest friends," a source reportedly told The National Enquirer.

The friend feared she would lose the baby after she experienced symptoms of a miscarriage, the report added/ Vergara and Loeb were out having dinner at a West Hollywood restaurant on Feb. 22 when they learned their friend was hospitalized. The couple immediately left to visit their surrogate.

"Sofia's surrogate had developed pain and went to the hospital, fearing that she was going to have a miscarriage," the source claimed. "After several hours, it was determined that the baby was fine, and so was the surrogate mom. Sofia thanked God that everything was OK."

Vergara discussed the possibility of having more children in an interview last year. She said she would "think about it" because she could afford to enlist hands-on help if needed,

"I can have more nannies. So it wouldn't be something crazy for me," Vergara told Allure. "But I wouldn't have four. Maybe one is fine."

Modern Family airs at 9/8 p.m. Central Wednesdays on ABC. Watch the short clip below of Vergara as Gloria on Modern Family.
