Check Out The Trailer For 'Downton Abbey' Season 6

The final episode of Downton Abbey airs this Sunday night on PBS and series creator Julian Fellowes revealed how he wants fans to remember it- in the most positive way possible.

"I didn't want it too tidy, but I did want a sense of warmth," Fellowes told Entertainment Weekly in Sunday's report. "I wanted a sense of generosity towards these people we'd come to know so well."

The creator added that he hopes everyone will feel the satisfaction they deserve when the final moment comes so everyone will have a good feel for the show as a whole.

"I wanted everyone to go to kind of go to bed that night feeling content because, in a way, you watch the final episode in a slightly different mood," Fellowes noted. "You watch it say 'goodbye' to them because you know it's the end. And I felt that I wanted that atmosphere where people around the world were sort of raising a glass as they bid them farewell."

Executive producer Gareth Neame also teased what might go down, which can come with happy and sad results.

"Although the show has light and shade and it's got good and bad things going on in it- there have been big shocks and surprises even in the finale season- the overall direction of travel is one of optimism," Neame said. "It really felt that because these characters are so beloved, they had to have decent endings."

The final episode of Downton Abbey airs on Sunday, March 6 at 9 p.m. ET on PBS.
