The famous Captain Stephen Peacock from the hit television comedy Are you Being Served? died on Saturday. He was 92.

Frank Thornton is believed to have died in his home in London, his agent, David Daly said Monday.

Although the British actor is known for his comic role for Are you Being Served?, which ran from the 1970's to 1985, Thornton also played in The Benny Hill Show, Last of the Summer Wine, and Gosford Park, reported The Washington Post.

His role as Captain Peacock, consisting of phrases with double meanings and sexual innuendoes, depicted a tense store manager who bragged about his wartime experiences. The setting was based in a fictional department store, Grace Brothers.

The show became popular in the United States on PBS and BBC America, in addition to many Commonwealth nations around the world, according to MSN.

"I have been Frank's agent since 1986 and he has been the most wonderful client as well as being a great friend. He will be sorely missed," MSN reported Daly saying in a statement.

ITV reported that the last surviving member of the Are You Being Served cast Nicholas Smith, who played Mr. Rumbold said Frank Thornton was a "witty chap" who was a "joy to work with."

He is survived by his wife Beryl, whom he had been married to for 67 years. He also has a daughter Jane, and three grandchildren.
