The CW hit TV series Vampire Diaries is set to return tonight will an all-new episode titled Because The Night. However, the most recent news in relation to the vampire show is that Claire Holt (Rebekah) has been confirmed to join the cast of its future spinoff, The Originals.

While the Rebekah character's attachment to the Vampire Diaries' prequel comes as no surprise, her attachment to the respective project had taken longer than anticipated.

Holt is the latest name to join the cast along with Daniel Gillies (Elijah), Phoebe Tonkin (Hayley) and Joseph Morgan (Klaus).

In terms of The Vampire Diaries itself, Rebekah still has her fair share of character development, according to Carter Matt.

The site goes on to say that her continuous scramble for the vampire cure will lead to a confrontation with her and Katherine (Nina Dobrev).

Holt spoke to Zap2It about the nasty battle that's brewing between the two characters.

"They're so similar in a way, but so different in a way. I think Rebekah likes having the power. She likes controlling situations. I think she's liked to play that sort of vixen role in Mystic Falls, and Katherine has been the ultimate vixen, so I don't think they're going to be the best of friends, that's for sure."

Meanwhile, Holt also dished on the possibility of a future romance story arc for her character and Stefan (Paul Wesley), who initially got close with each other this season.

"I would love for it to [continue] because I absolutely adore Paul Wesley, he's one of my favorite people on the planet. People don't know this about him but he's so funny. Probably one of the funniest people I've ever met in my life ... I think we had some really great chemistry, it harkens back to the 1920s episode, but like, really? I don't think anybody really wants to be with Rebekah forever unless she changes her ways."

The Vampire Diaries will next air on Thursday, March 21 at 8 p.m. EDT on the CW network.
