Sinkhole Bedroom VIDEO, PHOTOS: Florida Man Swallowed, Raw Footage Released by Authorities
Officials in Florida's Hillsborough County released a video on Tuesday of their investigation inside the sinkhole that killed a man in February.
The video shows a 60-foot-deep pit in the middle of the room where Jeff Bush was sleeping when the ground opened and swallowed him, according to New York Daily News. A contractor took the video, before the Florida home was leveled, by maneuvering a pole that had a camera attached through the window of the home's bedroom.
Around 11 p.m. on Feb. 28, the hole swallowed Bush, 37. His body was never recovered and the hole has since been filled.
Two neighboring homes were evacuated after the incident. Engineering consultants conducted geological tests at the three properties and found that soil under all three homes are unstable due to sinkhole activity, The Tampa Bay Times reported. The homeowners have only returned to retrieve their belongings since the accident.
The homeowners can move back in if they make repairs, the news report noted. The cost of such construction is estimated by officials at more than 50 percent of the current value of the homes.
Lynne McChristian, Florida spokeswoman for the Insurance Information Institute, said similar cases have occurred throughout the state.
