Quantcio's namesake will disappear from the picture as season 2 begins.

Josh Safran spent 22 episodes weaving a complicated and nail-biting tale of betrayal across two timelines. Now that Alex Parrish and her follow NATs/agents have put the real terrorist in the ground, however, the series creator may choose to take on an entirely different government agency this fall.

"There will be no Quantico in Season 2," Josh Safran told TV Insider. "That's a big spoiler I just gave away maybe...I don't care!"

Instead, Alex could be working under the auspices of the CIA. Her initial fugitive state and her subsequent rollercoaster ride through the New York timeline proved she's the best of the best, and that potential didn't go unnoticed. Clearly the CIA thinks Alex has what it takes to be a spook, but will out hero accept their job offer?

Safran refused to divulge the result of the cliffhanger - Quantico needs to bring in those season premiere ratings, after all - but the series' mastermind did promise TV Line that the drama's format won't change.

"The thing I like about this show, which I think is different than other shows that use two different time periods, is that we have two separate stories running on parallel tracks that touch upon each other, as opposed to a one and done that you're constantly flashing back to," Safran explained. "So Season 2 will keep the two storyline structure, because it is - I wish I could tell you what it is, but I can't - the Season 2 event is not a huge plot like I'm on the run and I'm being framed, which meant she was constantly on the move and constantly coming into people's stories."

In a slight change, season 2's central mystery will have "one is one full story, and then one slow thing." Safran believes it will be a less confusing tale with a much "cleaner build."
