ABC's Castle is now over, and the series' co-showrunners have penned a new letter to fans.

*Spoilers for the final episode of Castle ahead*

Castle fans were likely happy to see Castle (Nathan Fillion) and Beckett (Stana Katic) receive their happy ending at the end of Monday night's series finale. After an intense shoot-out that left both Castle and Beckett on the ground, the series flashed forward to seven years in the future, where the dynamic duo happily interacting in their home with their three children.

With the series now concluded, co-showrunners Alexi Hawley and Terence Paul Winter sent out a letter addressed to fans, which you can read below:

"While we're still trying to process all the emotions stirred up by recent events, the feeling that stands head and shoulders above all else, is gratitude.

Eight seasons. A hundred and seventy three episodes.

None of it would have been possible without you - our loyal and passionate fans. You are the reason this show survived and thrived. Without you carving out 'Castle Mondays' every week, we would never have been able to make the show we love for as long as we did.

So thank you.

And thanks to Andrew Marlowe for creating such a delightful world, centered around a love story for the ages. It was an honor and privilege to shepherd the story of Castle and Beckett this season.

And finally, thank you to our cast and crew, who have been our family for these last eight years. Who elevated every script by investing the best of themselves into each episode. We will miss you profoundly."

Castle fans have been through the wringer over the past month, which began with ABC revealing that they were moving forward without Katic, plus supporting player Tamala Jones (who plays Lanie). This sent many fans into a fury, and while the contract deals for Fillion and many of the supporting actors were being signed, it became pretty clear that ABC was going to produce a season 9.

However, the network announced late last week that they were ending Castle after eight seasons, giving fans proper closure with both Fillion and Katic in leading roles.
