The Avengers is about a team of super humans that together help to save planet earth from evil. The film stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson and Tom Hiddleston - who won on Sunday also for Best Villian.

The Avengers took home the award for Movie of the Year at the 2013 MTV Movie Awards on Sunday.

The Dark Knight Rises

Silver Linings Playbook came in as the third most-nominated film, which stars first-time Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence. Lawrence earned five 2013 MTV Movie Award nominations for her role in the dramatic comedy alongside Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro. Lawrence shared three out of her five 2013 MTV Movie Award nominations with Cooper. Together they are listed in the categories for Best Musical Moment, Best Kiss and Best On-Screen Duo.

Django Unchained stars Kerry Washington, Samuel L. Jackson, Jamie Foxx, Leonardo DiCaprio and Christopher Waltz. With the help of a German bounty hunter (Waltz) a freed slave (Foxx) sets out on a rescue mission to save his wife (Washington) from a violent Mississippi plantation owner.

The Dark Knight Rises stars Christian Bale as Batman, who resurfaces to fight a new evil and protect Gotham City - the very place that calls him their enemy. The film also stars Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway and Marion Cotillard.

Ted stars Family Guy creator Seth McFarlene, Mila Kunis and Mark Wahlberg. The film is about a young boy who makes a wish that his teddy bear would come to life - and his wish was granted. John Bennett (Wahlberg) and his bear Ted (McFarlene) remain best friends even through adulthood but their friendship is tested when Bennett's girlfriend Lori (Kunis) wants more out of their relationship.
