The defense rested their case on Tuesday during Jodi Arias' first-degree murder trial for the 2008 Arizona killing of her ex-boyfriend Travis Alexander.

"At this point, the defense rests," Arias' defense attorney Kirk Nurmi told the judge Tuesday morning, according to AZcentral.com

The court session ended early on Wednesday after a brief cross examination. The trial is expected to continue and juror deliberations will not begin until a few more weeks. If she is convicted of the murder and the lies that she confessed to, Arias will could face the death penalty and become the fourth woman in Arizona's history to die by lethal injection.

As Arias awaits the jury's decision following the three-month trial, Lifetime is currently finalizing the casting of Lost actress Tania Raymonde to portray the alleged murderer in an original movie about Alexander's murder, titled Dirty Little Secrets: The Jodi Arias Story.

Raymonde will portray the former photographer who has been on trial because autopsy records showed that she stabbed Alexander over 27 times, slit his throat from ear-to-ear and shot him in the head. According to police, she lied twice at first about how Alexander was killed and later admitted that she killed him in an act of self-defense

Raymonde - who is best known for her role as Alex Rousseau in ABC's Lost from 2006-2010 - is in the final stages of negotiations to portray the high-profile alleged murderer, according to Deadline.

Actor Jesse Lee Soffer has been cast to play Alexander, according to the report. He recently appeared in the Mob Doctor television series playing Nate Devline.

The cable network's original movie will be directed by Jace Alexander. The script was written by Richard Blaney and Gregory Small. The movie is being executive produced by Joshua D. Maurer, Alixandre Witlin and Judith Verno, all of whom have worked on previous courtroom and crime dramas such as Prosecuting Casey Anthony,  2011's Amanda Knox: Murder On Trial In Italy, Drew Peterson: Untouchable and The Craigslist Killer.

Filming is expected to begin "right away" in Los Angeles, according to the report.
