If there was anything the recently-concluded Anime Expo 2016 confirmed, it is that the hit anime series, One Punch Man, is finally getting an official English adaptation. In an announcement, Viz Media announced that the English dub of the highly-popular anime would premiere on July 16 on the Adult Swim block of Toonami.

The lineup of the One Punch Man English dub is headed by voice actor veteran Max Mittelman, who would be voicing main character Saitama. Mittelman's voice acting portfolio includes notable video game titles, such as Fallout 4 and Fire Emblem Fates.

Other voice actors of the English dub include Zach Aguilar, who would be voicing Genos, Robbie Daymond as Class C Hero Mumen Rider, and Erik Kimerer, who would provide the voice of the deadly Speed-of-Sound Sonic.

One Punch Man quickly gained a very strong following due to its unique take on the shounen genre in anime. Largely a deconstructed series with a protagonist that is the complete opposite of traditional shounen leads, One Punch Man shines most when it pokes fun at the tropes and other conventions in action anime.

The world of One Punch Man is one that is constantly under threat by monsters, from man-made abominations to mythical creatures that border on the supernatural. In order to counter the ever-present threat, individuals called Heroes battle the monsters in order to protect the populace.

While the concept of the anime seems like something straight out of a traditional shounen title, it is the main character, Saitama, that really ties the series together. Unlike conventional shounen heroes, Saitama does not have any super powers or abilities, save for the fact that he has gotten so strong, his enemies all get destroyed in a single punch. Thus, with his excess of power, Saitama lives as a hero who is largely bored due to the lack of viable challengers around.

One Punch Man has seen massive success internationally when it was released last year. A second season is rumored to be in the works.
