NBC Anchor A.J. Clemente Says 'F---ing Sh-t' On-Air [VIDEO]: Gets Fired from Job, Apologizes On Twitter
A.J. Clemente's first day on the job was a colorful one as he let out "F---ing sh-t" during the broadcast. He was not aware that his mic was still on but will still suffer the consequences of the gaffe. It was announced that he was suspended by the network for using profanity.
The anchor debuted as anchor for North Dakota NBC affiliate KFYR and his jitters apparently got the best of him. After the on air swearing in, he also awkwardly said, "I'm used to from being the East Coast". Before he took to his new post, he shared his apprehension on Twitter.
"Alright News Director and GM checking out my tape that we shot yesterday. Seeing if i am ready for anchoring.....Awkward Turtle.......," Clemente tweeted.
After his on air candor, Clemente knew that he did not make the best first impression.
"That couldn't have gone any worse!" he tweeted.
The network had his co-anchor Van Tieu open up the 10 p.m. news hour with a formal apology.
"We were caught off guard and [Clemente] didn't realize his microphone was on. And while that was no excuse - we do train our reporters to always assume that any microphone is live at any time - unfortunately we cannot take back what was said. But, we do apologize and hope that you may forgive us and rest assured, that something like this will not happen again.," she said.
Clemente also offered his own apologies through his Twitter on April 22.
"Tough day,Thanks for the support,We all make mistakes. Im truly sorry for mine. I'll try my hardest to come back better and learn from this."
However, his mistake ultimately cost him his job. He tweeted that he was fired from the station.
"Unfortunately KFYRTV has decided to let me go. Thank you to them and everyone in ND for the opportunity and everyone for the support," he said.
He was already looking for new opportunities.
"Rookie mistake. I'm a free agent.Cant help but laugh at myself and stay positive.Wish i didnt trip over my "Freaking Shoes" out of the gate."
