The 2016 adaptation of Berserk has so far surprised avid fans of Kentarou Miura's dark fantasy manga, with the first episodes being widely panned due to its low production values and the later episodes being hailed as very faithful to the manga. The seventh episode, titled The Black Witch, follows the pattern for the anime's reception thus far, with avid fans of the series stating that it is the best episode yet.

One of the things that make the Berserk manga great is its capability to make readers feel very sympathetic to the story's characters. So far, despite the clunky CGI and the downright confusing camera work during some action sequences, the anime is nonetheless able to flesh out the characters very well.

While Episode 7 did not show as much of the Black Swordsman as many would have liked, the episode did, nonetheless, enable the anime to show the heroics of Isidro and Puck, Guts' two traveling companions. So far, these two characters have been largely in the background; thus, it was quite refreshing to see them get some action on their own.

Apart from this, Guts' reunion with Casca was actually done very well. Just like the manga, their reunion was quite bittersweet, as Guts was finally able to lay his eyes on the once-proud Casca two years after the horrifying events of the Eclipse.

Indeed, the last episode showed the best that the 2016 adaptation of berserk has to offer so far, and fans have been unanimous with the notion that the anime is only getting better with each episode that comes out.

However, the joy of Berserk fans might end up short-lived, as a recent DVD listing for the anime's box set showed that there will only be two releases of 6 episodes each. This means that, contrary to what many fans expected, the 2016 adaptation of Berserk is only going to be running for 12 episodes.

This has caused a number of the anime's fans to be disappointed. After all, it has taken years before a follow-up adaptation to the Golden Age arc gas been released. In fact, with the original speculation that the anime would be running for 24 episodes, many fans were looking forward to Guts finally donning the Berserker armor.

Alas, this does not seem to be the case. If the anime continues with its current pace, the last episode of the 2016 adaptation of Berserk would be featuring Guts' battle with Mozgus.

Fans of the beyond-the-roof awesome Berserker armor might have to wait a little longer.
