Dragon Ball Super is back after yet another week-long break due to the 2016 Rio Olympics, and the anime's fans have been teased once more about what would happen next in the episodes to come.

Episode 55 Review

Last weekend, Episode 55, I Want to Meet Son Goku - A Call from Zenō-sama, aired, and fans were treated to even more exposition about the background of the battle against Black Goku. The episode also dealt with Goku's meeting with Zeno, who happens to just be looking for a friend.

While Episode 55 was, in its core, yet another world-building episode, it was nonetheless very important to the plot of Dragon Ball Super's future Trunks arc. For one, numerous allusions to Zamasu being Black Goku were shown, and the notion of Kais and Gods of Destruction being permanently linked were also discussed.

The end of Episode 55 features the heroes being shot by the resistance after its members thought Goku was Black Goku. When the preview started, however, things became a bit alarming. In fact, it might very well herald yet another sub par battle.

Episode 56 Preview

The brief preview of Episode 56 showed Black Goku turning Super Saiyan Rose. While this particular transformation has already been teased for a few weeks now, it was still quite a treat to see the new Super Saiyan form appear on the screen.

What followed were scenes of Super Saiyan Blue Vegeta trying to punch Black Goku. In the preview, it appeared that Black Goku was easily dodging Vegeta's attacks. When the villain does engage in his transformation himself, the scene cut to Son Goku and Vegeta trying to face Super Saiyan Rose Black Goku once more.

Episode 56's Battle to be a Disappointment?

What was particularly disheartening in the preview of Episode 56 was the fact that Black Goku seems to be toying with Super Saiyan Blue Vegeta once more. If previous Dragon Ball Super arcs are anything to go by, this would mean that Vegeta would once more be the villain's warm-up before he gets beaten to a pulp by a more powerful Son Goku.

While this particular sequence of events is quite logical in a sense, it has, nonetheless, been done to death. It has happened in practically all the arcs that have been featured so far. Thus, if a character like Vegeta would simply end up being a punching bag once more, and if Son Goku would simply be the Deus Ex Machina of the plot again, Dragon Ball Super would have missed a great chance to end an arc in a unique, far more compelling way than before.

Sadly, might indeed be the case. Then again, the creator of the Dragon Ball franchise himself, Akira Toriyama, is involved with the creation of the current future Trunks arc. Thus, the battle against Black Goku might pleasantly surprise fans yet.
