Pump the brakes, speedsters. The Flash will have TWO lightning-fast foes in season 3, the first of which will make his debut in the Flashpoint universe.

In addition to Savitar, Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) and Co. will tangle with The Rival.

Kid Flash (Keiynan Lonsdale) was spotted battling a black-suited speedster while filming for the premiere, and, after The Flash's presentation at the Television Critics Association summer press tour earlier this month, viewers assumed Central City's new scourge was none other than Savitar.

There was some trepidation, however, particularly considering the dark speedster's super suit didn't fall in line with Savitar's bare-chested depiction. As it turns out, The Flash hasn't even cast the big bad. Instead, bystanders we're treated to their first glimpse of The Rival. Executive producer Greg Berlanti confirmed the news via Twitter.

Todd Lasance will take on the role, according to TV Line. While Dr. Edward Clariss, aka The Rival, will first appear in Barry's new timeline, it is unknown if he will somehow follow the Flash back to his original life. After all, the Flashpoint storyline will only last for a few episodes.

"There're ramifications through the whole season, but it won't necessarily last as long as some people are expecting it to 'last,' I guess. But there are permanent effects on the rest of the show," Gustin told IGN, a statement that was later confirmed by CW president Mark Pedowitz.

The Flash will return to The CW on Oct. 4 at 8 p.m. ET.
