They were supposed to get a happy ending, albeit on the run from the law for the rest of their lives, but now, after an explosion at their safehouse, everything will change for Chelsea (Melissa Clare Egan) and Adam (Justin Hartley) on The Young and the Restless.

Chelsea came back with Connor and Nick (Joshua Morrow) only to walk up to the cabin as it exploded, with Adam presumably still inside. Now, Nick will spring into action to get her away from the flames, and to the airfield so she can make her flight, in the hopes that Adam went ahead without her and was no longer inside.

"Hold on right there," he says to Connor in a preview clip for the Friday, September 2 episode. "I'll be right back."

And though he pulls Chelsea out of danger, there won't be any hope for Adam, as the two will quickly learn when they get to the airfield and realize he isn't there either.

Meanwhile, the hunt for the two fugitives is ongoing, and when the news about the explosion hits, Paul (Doug Davidson) and Dylan (Steve Burton) will race to the scene to see if they can find the couple before they allude their grasp for good.

"There was an explosion at a cabin, about five miles from here," Paul says in the clip. "A witness saw a man, a woman, and a child."

What no one will realize however, whether Adam is alive or dead, is that the explosion was no accident, and though Victor (Eric Braden) will be the first one blamed since he is the only one who allegedly knew where the pair were hiding out, he genuinely was trying to help them escape, and was not trying to kill his son. In fact, the person who may have just changed everything was none other than Chloe (Elizabeth Hendrickson), who snuck out of the penthouse the same way Chelsea did, in order to finally get the revenge on Adam she has so desperately been seeking for Delia's death.

The Young and the Restless airs Monday-Friday at 12:30 p.m. on CBS.
