Throw your heads back and howl at the heavens, Children of the Moon. Shadowhunters has added another werewolf to the mix, and it's none other than Maia.

Pulled from the pages of City of Ashes, Maia is a teenage runaway with a dark backstory. Bitten by a vengeful ex, Maia made her way to Manhattan, ultimately ending up at the Hunter's Moon. Alisha Wainwright will take on the role of the 15-year-old lycanthrope, although it is unknown whether or not Shadowhunters will adjust her age up as with the drama's core five.

Despite werewolves' natural predilection against vampires, Maia will find that Simon (Alberto Rosende) breaks the bloodsucker mold. The pair will strike up a friendship in defiance of their clans' bloody history, and, as dangers flare up around them, that platonic partnership will turn into romance.

Wainwright took to Twitter on Friday to express her excitement for season 2, thanking fans for their enthusiasm and Cassandra Clare for writing such a headstrong character.

"You've written such an inspiring/kickass character! I'm happy to play!!" the actress told Clare while informing viewers that she is "over the moon excited" to tackle the role.

Meet Maia when Shadowhunters returns to Freeform in early 2017.
