After nearly a year delay, The Maze Runner: The Death Cure will resume filming this February.

Production for the Wes Ball film came to a screeching last March when the franchises lead, Dylan O'Brien (Thomas), suffered an on-set accident during a stunt. Although the 25-year-old actor was initially slated to return to work last May, the recovery time for his "concussion, facial fracture and lacerations" turned out to be longer than expected.

As of late July, those close to the O'Brien we're confident his convalescence was on track.

"He's doing great," Teen Wolf's JR Bourne told The Wrap. "I've tried to let him have his time, but I reached out through text just to let him know that he's in my thoughts. But as far as I know, he's doing well."

Set to film American Assassin this month before returning to work on Teen Wolf in October, the February start now has more to do with O'Brien's busy schedule and the logistics of gathering the cast and crew.

"The crew went their separate ways after the second postponement, but now schedules have been worked out to move forward early next year, albeit in a new location," Deadline reported.

Director Wes Ball has yet to address the resumption of filming r the change of locale, but he published the following letter at the time of O'Brien's accident.

"Well, it's been a whirlwind of emotions these past few days. I've been overwhelmed with feelings of anger and sadness and guilt. But, ultimately I find myself left with a deep love and respect for Dylan," Ball said. "He is one tough cookie. I'm sorry for the grief this accident has caused his friends and family as well as my wonderful cast and crew."

The Death Cure will now hit theaters on Jan. 12, 2018.
